Playa de Sotavento, on the south-east coast of Fuerteventura's Jandía peninsula, is the Canaries' most iconic windsurf spot and home of the PWA World Cup. NE trade winds funnel between the mountains (a venturi effect) to blow side-shore 18-35+ knots almost daily from April to September. At Risco del Paso a huge shallow lagoon forms with the tides — flat, waist-deep water ideal for beginners and freestyle — while the open ocean outside delivers bump-and-jump and waves for experts. Schools, rental and beachfront accommodation are on site.
