Jericoacoara sits inside a national park on the coast of Ceará, reached only by 4x4 across the dunes: sand streets, no street lights, and trade winds that blow almost every day from July to January. The main beach gives side-onshore riding, while the lagoons scattered around the village — Paraíso, Tatajuba, Guriú — are shallow and butter-flat, which is what turned Jeri into one of the world's best freestyle and downwind destinations. The season peaks between August and December with steady easterlies, warm water and no wetsuit in sight. Schools, rental and accommodation are all inside the village, and the classic downwinders (Preá to Jeri, or Jeri to Guriú) run for kilometres of near-empty coastline.
